In 2010, the state forest system of Pennsylvania included 2.2 million acres in 48 of the Commonwealth's 67 counties. These forest lands represent one of the largest expanses of wildland in the eastern United States, Each year, the Bureau of Forestry sustainably harvests approximately 15,000 acres and manages natural gas activity on 700,000 acres.
