In the 1930s, Pulitzer Prize-winner George S. Kaufman became one of the first New York City authors to buy a home in Bucks County. There he often worked with Moss Hart, whose 87-acre farm in Aquetong was just down the road. The two used the Bucks County Playhouse to run amateur productions of their new plays, including George Washington Slept Here, which in 1940 became a film starring Jack Benny and Ann Sheridan.
