Deeply influenced by Adventist theology, Charles Taze Russell (1852 –1916) formulated his own radical reinterpretation of the Bible. In 1881, Taze founded the Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society in Pittsburgh, PA, a group that in 1931 would take on the name of The Jehovah’s Witnesses. Russell’s voluminous writings—some 50,000 printed pages--included his Studies in the Scriptures, close to 20 million copies of which were distributed around the world during his lifetime.
