In appreciation for his opposition to construction of the Kinzua Dam, the Seneca Nation made Johnstown Congressman John Saylor an honorary member its tribe in September 1962. A firm believer in the value of America's unspoiled landscapes, Saylor introduced the bill that became National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.
