Located on a hillside above Wissahickon Creek near Hermit Lane in Philadelphia, this cave, which is probably an old spring house, has long been associated with Johannes Kelpius, the leader of a small group of German monks who travelled from Germany to Pennsylvania in 1694 to prepare for the second coming of Christ. In 1961, Rosicrucians erected the engraved plaque sitting near the entrance to the cave to commemorate Kelpius as the first Rosicrucian Master in America.
