In 1741, the same year that Count Zinzendorf visited the Oley Valley, Dr. George de Benneville (1703-1793), a charismatic preacher born to Hugenot parents in England, immigrated to Pennsylvania, where he helped prepare the first German language Bible printed in America. In 1743 de Benneville moved to the Oley Valley where he practiced medicine, preached, and ran a school for German children.
