Driven out of Great Britain for his support of the French Revolution and his radical calls for political reform in Rights of Man (1792) Thomas Paine made his way first to France, and then back to the United States where he died in 1809. In this furious British political cartoon from 1792, three nightmare judges loom over three scrolls documenting the Charges against, Pleas for, and Banishments for a sleeping Paine, wearing a "Libertas" night cap.
