After leaving Miles Davis' group in 1960, John Coltrane formed his own quartet. Playing with fellow Philadelphians McCoy Tyner and Reggie Workman, Coltrane's music became increasingly experimental and religious. In 1964, Coltrane released A Love Supreme, a deeply spiritual four-part suite that would become his most famous and enduring composition.
