The Chautauqua was a popular summer program at resorts like Mount Gretna and elsewhere around America. Combining educational uplift with relaxed fellowship, Chautauqua speakers promoted the gospel of public education while addressing relevant social, political and cultural topics of the day. Still in use today, the Hall of Philosophy was the setting for summer season educational offerings of Mt. Gretna's Pennsylvania Chautauqua.
