One of the powerhouse teams of the early National Football League, the Frankford Yellow Jackets went broke and were unable to finish the 1931 season. In 1933, Bert Bell and a group of partners bought the team's franchise, renamed it the "Philadelphia Eagles" to honor the avian symbol of the New Deal's National Recovery Act, and moved the field to the Baker Bowl. During their first few unsuccessful years in the league, the Eagles wore the Yellow Jackets powder blue and yellow uniforms.
