Professional teams, especially when they are winning, foment a strong sense of civic pride in their communities. Fans show their support by wearing hats and jerseys, flying pennants from the antennas of their cars, and following the games themselves with passion. When the Flyers won their first Stanley Cup in 1974, Philadelphians filled Broad Street to demonstrate their appreciation with victory parade, one of the spoils of a championship season, no matter the sport or city.
