In the early 1900s, Stetson employed more than 4,000 men and 1,000 women. Intensely paternalistic, John B. Stetson provided his workers a range of services, including a company hospital and savings and loan association, Americanization classes, and a sports teams that competed against other companies in Philadelphia's industrial leagues.
