Seven days before Christmas in 1910, Philadelphia's new Marcus Hook rayon plant hummed to life for the American Viscose Company. By seven o'clock the following morning, five machines roared to life, spun out rayon yarn onto the floor, walls, and ceiling. With that messy beginning, the rayon revolution in America had begun. The Marcus Hook plant would go on to become the largest synthetic fiber plant in the world.
