Since Milton Hershey planned to build his factory in the middle of farmland, it was clear from the beginning that a town must go hand in hand with the design of the company. While some people were suspicious given the recent history of "company towns" in industrialized America, Hershey's concern for his workers soon proved entirely genuine. With a bank, hotel, churches, parks, golf courses, and even a zoo, Hershey, Pennsylvania, won international acclaim as America's model company town.
