In January 1932, Pittsburgh Priest James Cox led more than 25,000 marchers from Pittsburgh, PA, to Washington, D.C. to demand relief assistance from the federal government. At the time, "Cox's Army" was the largest demonstration in the history of the nation's capital. The march failed to move Congress, but it did spark formation of the Jobless Party, which spread from Pittsburgh to other major cities across the country.
