In November 1937, Eleanor Roosevelt (right) and the "world's richest girl" Mrs. James R. Cromwell–the former Doris Duke– visited Penn Craft at the end of a weekend automobile tour they took to see first-hand the living conditions of coal miners in western Pennsylvania.
