Located in a remote area, Patterson has two rustic picnic pavilions for visitors to enjoy a quiet lunch. Patterson is a trailhead for the Susquehannock Trail, a favorite of backpackers. Patterson State Park is 6.5 miles south of Sweden Valley on Pennsylvania Route 44.
This 10-acre park is surrounded by the Susquehannock State Forest and provides access to cross-country ski and snowmobile trails. The Susquehannock Trail System, consisting of 85 miles of hiking trails, passes through the park. The park offers primitive overnight camping facilities as well as picnic tables and a pavilion.
A single-track mountain bike trail runs 15 miles from the state forest district office at Denton Hill to Patterson State Park and continues to Cherry Springs State Park. Trail maps are available at the Bureau of Forestry and Lyman Run State Park offices. If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks at 888-PA-PARKS (voice 1-888-727-2757).
