Bald Eagle State Park Attraction Details
Bald Eagle State Park
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/baldeagle.aspx
The rugged Bald Eagle Mountains and Allegheny Plateau enhance the beauty of the 1,730-acre lake that features unlimited horesepower boating. Visitors may choose from a wide selection of recreational opportunities which also include swimming, picnicking, fishing, water-skiing, hiking, both primitive and modern camping, environmental education programs, ice fishing, ice skating, cross country skiing, sledding, and tobogganing.

A variety of hiking trails are available at the park. The Lakeside Trail is located on the southeast shore of the lake and is accessible from the primitive campground or the Bald Eagle Launch Ramp at Howard. (This is a rugged, rocky trail and hikers should use caution). In the main park, a loop trail connects the beach area, the modern campground, the Hunter Run West Launch Area and the marina and includes the park's 1.5 mile long Butterfly Trail. These trails total 7.5 miles and are also available for cross-country skiing. North of Route 150, and connecting to the loop trails in the main park, is another hiking/cross-country ski trail that is approximately four miles long and is a mixture of woods and open fields. Check with the park office or a park ranger for the condition of trails before hiking.

The existing recreational facilities result from a joint flood control project developed by the The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the former Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources. Recreational facilities are situated around the 1,730-acre lake which extends nearly eight miles upstream and includes 23 miles of shoreline. The lake is drawn down in mid-November for flood control purposes and returns to summer recreational level by the middle of May each year.

Pennsylvania's state parks have varying levels of handicap accessible facilities. For full accessibility information, reservations or additional inquiries about Pennsylvania's State Parks, please call (voice) 1-888-PA-PARKS (voice 1-888-727-2757).
