Former home of local physician Dr. Alexander Stewart, the Stewart House was built in 1784. The Shippensburg Historical Socirty holds one of the largest collections from the Works Progress Administration from 1935 to 1941. Objects include house models from around the world, Indian dioramas and other items used in schools for educational purposes. Other permanent collections include a display of 1,277 goblets, more than 6,000 Indian artifacts (a third of which were found locally), and items from Stewart's medical practice dating back to the 1930s. There are several rotating displays. Open 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday. Open for genealogy and history research and guided tours on Mondays and Wednesdays.
