Moraine State Park features Lake Arthur, an outstanding fishery that is also great for sailing and boating. The rolling hills, lush forests and sparkling waters disguise land that has endured the effects of glaciers and mining. Thousands of people visit Moraine yet never realize that the park was restored from prior coal mining and oil drilling practices. Today, the park is an outstanding example of environmental engineering achievement.
Picnic tables, charcoal grills and restrooms are located park. Seven picnic pavilions may be reserved for a fee. Unreserved picnic pavilions are free on a first come first served basis.
Swimming is permitted at two beaches along the shore of Lake Arthur. Showers, changing facilities and food concessions are available at both beaches.
Boats with up to 18 horsepower motors are permitted. There are 10 boat-launching areas. At the Crescent Bay Area, various boats are available for rental. Canoes and paddleboats may be rented at the Pleasant Valley Day Use Area on weekends.
Barber Point is popular for windsurfing due to stronger winds and sparse boat traffic. Windsurfing lessons are available through the Crescent Bay boat rental.
A paved, seven-mile bicycle trail winds near the shoreline between the Marina Restaurant and the Bike Rental Building. There is also a six-mile loop trail for mountain bikes on the North Shore. Moraine State Park offers a variety of hiking trails of all difficulty levels. Hikers should contact the park office or visit the park website for more information.
