When Bob Stoudt and David Bashore were in first grade, they swore they would always be best friends. True to their promise, the two are still as close as brothers. They each served as best man at the other's wedding. So it really didn't surprise anyone when they went into business together, opening the Bashore and Stoudt Country Winery in Shartlesville, on the border of Lehigh and Berks Counties.

For David, going into the winemaking business was a natural choice. A third generation fruit farmer, he had made wine as a hobby out of the apples, berries, cherries, plums and other fruilts he grew. His winemaking skills inspired buddy Bob, already an aficionado, to take up the craft himself.

Together, this dynamic duo produces more than 20 varieties of wines from the fruit on David's farm. Among them are apple, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, apricot, nectarine, six different plum wines, and three different cherry wines, plus their Catawba, Baco Noir and Niagara wines.
