With 70 miles of well-maintained trail stretching from Ohiopyle State Park (renowned for its whitewater rafting) to the tiny village of Seward along the Conemaugh River near historic Johnstown, it's hard to choose where to hike on the Laurel Highlands Trail. Following the sinuous path of Laurel Ridge, the trail wanders through rhododendron tunnels and over mountaintops covered in mountain laurel, winding through rock mazes, popping out on cliffs above the Youghigheny River and the Allegheny Plateau. Tying together state parks, state forests, and state game lands, it immerses the hiker in what backcountry still remains on Laurel Ridge. Open year-round, spring through fall for hiking.
