Tobyhanna State Park is in scenic Monroe and Wayne counties in northeastern Pennsylvania. The 5,440-acre park includes the 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake. Tobyhanna is derived from an American Indian word meaning "a stream whose banks are fringed with alder."
Boats with electric motors only are permitted. Overnight mooring is permitted in 62 seasonal mooring spaces and requires a park mooring permit.
During the summer season, Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, concessions rent rowboats and canoes by the hour, half-day or full-day.
The common fish in Tobyhanna and Gouldsboro lakes are bass, pickerel, yellow perch, catfish and sunfish. An accessible fishing pier is available in both parks. Both lakes are popular ice fishing spots.
A 140-site camping area is available from the first weekend in April to mid-December. Rustic toilets and hand operated water pumps are provided. Playgrounds are provided. A dump station is located along the camping area entrance road.
The swimming beach at each park is open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day unless posted otherwise. The regular hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tobyhanna State Park provides four picnic areas with a total of 300 picnic tables. A small playfield is located near Parking Area 4. A picnic pavilion may be reserved up to 11 months in advance.
Hikers will enjoy the 5.25-mile woodland hike around Tobyhanna Lake. This trail is also suitable for bicycling. An additional 7 miles of hiking trails are available. For more information, contact the park office or visit the park Web site.
A 1.2-acre area near Parking Area 3 is available for ice skating as conditions permit. Unheated restrooms are provided. Tobyhanna State Park provides a one-way snowmobile trail 5.5 miles in length. Unheated restrooms, parking and unloading space are available in Parking Area 1. Snowmobiling is permitted daily after antlerless deer season as long as sufficient snow cover is available.
