Assessment strategies

Students work in cooperative groups and individually throughout this lesson. There are multiple opportunities for teachers to assess student progress and understanding. These include oral responses from students as well as their written responses to the primary document analysis.

Student work on  Student Worksheet 1-Collecting Evidence  and  Student Worksheet 2-Understanding the Evidence  requires students to work independently and think critically based on their interpretation of primary source documents. The teacher, using the directions from  Student Worksheet 1 , will set the proper context for the lesson by explaining the techniques used to interpret these types of documents.

Student work on Student Worksheet 3-Acting on the Evidence  and  Student Worksheet 4-Pennsylvania Workman's Compensation Act  requires both individual and cooperative effort. Students will work in groups to prepare a piece of legislation and then write individual letters for homework.
