In January, 1921, KDKA hired Harold W. Arlin as the nation's first full-time radio announcer. That August, Arlin called the first baseball game ever broadcast on radio, describing the Pirates' 8-5 victory over the Phillies from a Forbes Field box seat. That fall, Arlin worked the first-ever football broadcast, a college game between Pitt and West Virginia.
