After his major league career, Ed Walsh managed minor league and semi-pro ball clubs, briefly umpired in the American League, and served as a coach for the White Sox for six seasons. In the 1920s Walsh also served as the informal pitching coach for the Notre Dame baseball team when his sons Ed Jr. and Bob were there. While pitching in the minor leagues Ed Jr. ended a young Joe DiMaggio's 61-game hitting streak, on July 16, 1933. Ed Jr. would also play for the Chicago White Sox for several seasons.
