One of the nation's top generals during World War II, Jacob Devers did some of his most important and effective work in military planning and preparation. Whether working on tank tactics, organizing and training American troops for the invasion of France, or coordinating with Allied commanders, the energetic and tactful Devers was the consummate professional. Devers retired from the Army in 1949, after forty years in the military.
