"This international service is not mere humanitarianism; it is not merely mopping up, cleaning up the world after war. It is aimed at creating peace by setting an example of a different way of international serviceā¦to help the spirit and to give men hope that there can be a peaceful world." These words Haverford College professor Henry J. Cadbury (1883-1974) spoke as he received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway, on behalf of the American Friends Service Committee, which he helped found in 1917.
