While their parents played in their own band at the Standard Theatre, Fayard (1914-2006) and Harold (1921-2000) Nicholas as children danced out front on South Street. From there they moved to the stages of the Standard and Pearl Theater in Philadelphia, New York's Cotton Club, and then to Hollywood, where they performed in their first film, Pie, Pie Blackbird, in 1932. During the 1930s and 1940s, the Nicholas Brothers, two of the nation's greatest tap dancers, performed in more than thirty Hollywood musicals.
