Early in World War II Brewster designed and manufactured the F2A-3 Buffalo and SB2A Buccaneer, and also produced 735 F3As, license-built copies of the Chance-Vought F4U Corsair. Plagued by quality control and labor problems, Brewster closed, and its new airbase taken over by the Navy in 1944.
