The Homestead strike of 1892 culminated in a fierce battle between the Pinkertons and the steelworkers and residents of Homestead. This image depicts a gun battle at close quarters that did not actually take place. The Pinkertons disembarked from their barge only after the shooting had ended. "Fort Frick" with the wooden fence surrounding it sits at the top of the hill.
