As war chief of the Miami nation, Michikinikwa (Little Turtle) presided over the greatest defeat ever suffered by U.S. troops at the hands of Native Americans. On November 3, 1791 Michikinikwa and his warriors thrashed General Arthur St. Clair at Fort Recovery, killing and wounding close to 900. By the 1794, Little Turtle was a voice for peace, and in 1795 he joined others Indian leaders in signing the Treaty of Greenville.
