As a member of the Bucktails, Pennsylvania's celebrated sharpshooter's unit, Robert B. Valentine fought valiantly during the Civil War. Wounded at Gettysburg and in two other engagements he had also been captured by Confederates and spent time in Richmond's infamous Libby Prison. When he was mustered out of the famed Pennsylvania Bucktails with the rest of his company in June of 1864, Valentine owed the government $21.65 for clothing overdrawn!
