Out of touch with the rest of the Confederate invasion force for the better part of eight days, J.E.B. Stuart and his Confederate cavalry on June 30, 1863, continued to push north. Near the town of Hanover, Pennsylvania, he attacked and was repulsed by the Union's Third Cavalry Division.
