Frank Conrad with His First Broadcast Radio Set

In 1924 Westinghouse engineer Frank Conrad posed for this photograph in the garage where he had begun his ham radio broadcasts in the late 1910s. "It was from this little set" the accompanying press release would boast, "that the great station KDKA was built up." By the time he retired from Westinghouse in 1940, Conrad had accrued more than 200 patents.
