After his film career floundered in the United States, Mario Lanza moved to Rome, Italy in 1957 and revived his career through a series of acclaimed concerts throughout Europe. Already suffering from a variety of ailments, he died in October 1959 from a pulmonary embolism. Only thirty-eight at the time of his death, Lanza lay in state in Rome before his remains were interred at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
