Already recognized as the world's greatest all-around swimmer, Weismuller took two individual gold medals, in the 100m, and 400m freestyle, and a third gold in the 4x200m relay at the 1924 Paris Olympics. At the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, he would win another two gold medals. By the time he gave up swimming for a Hollywood career, Weismuller had also won fifty-two U.S. National championships and set sixty-seven world records.
