They would have to move fast! The Confederates were advancing at a run along the Chambersburg Pike toward the now forming Federal battle lines extending from the McPherson Farm south along McPherson's Ridge. As pressure on General Buford's cavalry mounted west of Gettysburg, General John Reynolds chose McPherson's Ridge to make his stand. With a casual salute, Reynolds and Buford parted company. It would be the last time Buford would see his friend alive.
