Led by Hall of Fame catcher Josh Gibson, the Homestead Grays won nine straight Negro League pennants between 1937 and 1945. During World War II, the Grays played their home games at both Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C., where they often outdrew the cellar-dwelling Major League Washington Senators.
