Color painting of a battle scene

The American soldier casualties at the Battle of Paoli, an English surprise attack on September 20, 1777, became a symbol of British butchery and a rallying cry for Americans resistance during the Revolutionary War. In 1782 Italian artist Xavier della Gatta painted this imaged scene of the battle, most likely for a British officer.
