In 1895, one of the finest portrait painters of her day, Philadelphia native Cecilia Beaux became the first female instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Beaux's first major work, was this portrait of her sister and nephew, titled Les Derniers Jours d'Enfance.
