In 1946, folklorist George Korson took this photograph of anthracite coal miners playing music and dancing at the Newkirk Tunnel Mine in Schuylkill County, PA. In addition to publishing six books on the folk songs and stories of Pennsylvania coal miners and other industrial workers, Korson also released his field recordings of coal miners on two LP records for the Library of Congress.
