Sunset, by Martin Heade.
Close Window

A colorful red sky sunset settles around the hay bales and cattle in the field. Patches of marshy water dot the landscape and birds appear to be feeding on the life that these patches provide.

Sunset, by Martin Heade. One of the great American artists of the 1800s, Bucks County native Martin Heade was all but forgotten for close to a half century after his death. Best known today for his paintings of the tropics, Heade also painted luminous, atmospheric landscapes of the American salt marshes.
