A voracious collector of stories and materials about the history of his native city, John Fanning Watson  (1779 - 1860) in 1830 published Annals of Philadelphia, the first major history of the City of Brotherly Love.  Watson’s multivolume history remains a fascinating treasure trove of information and stories about the early history of Philadelphia.
