Born and raised in Reading, PA, Wallace Stevens, (1879-1955) made his living working for the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company. He did not publish his first poems until he was in his mid-thirties, but would publish more than ten volumes of work, and in 1954 win a Pulitzer Prize for his Collected Poems.
