The Old Jewish Cemetery in Chambersburg, is believed to be the earliest Jewish burial ground in Pennsylvania west of the Susquehanna River. The oldest headstone refers to a burial in July 1840. After the burial society dissolved sometime around 1900 the cemetery fell into disrepair. It was restored in 1988, and again in 2000.
