In the early 1900s Pennsylvania was one of the country's economic powerhouses and the state spared no expense to build one of the most lavish and beautiful state capital buildings in the nation. Restored since the 1980s to its formal glory, the capital remains an exquisite reminder of the state's extraordinary economic wealth and political power from the 1860s through the 1920s.
