Between 1928 and 1975 Margaret Mead wrote or collaborated on thirty-nine books, almost 1,400 other publications, and forty-three films. Like Mead’s first book, Coming of Age in Samoa, her 1972 memoir, Blackberry Winter: My Earlier Years, was an enormous best-seller.
