The appearance of "hammer mills" in the 1930s spelled the end of Anselma and other custom grist mills throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Mounted onto pickup trucks, the portable mills eliminated the need for farmers to haul wagons of corn to Anselma and other mills for grinding.
