A man in a suit stands in a garden

In 1909 McFarland bought Breeze Hill, an Italianate style house at the corner of 21st Street and Bellevue Road in Harrisburg. On the house's 2.4 acre lot, he planted one of the nation's best known test gardens for roses, which he photographed using an early form of color glass plate processing.
